About the Author
Dr. Heather Hughes is a learning designer at Teaching and Learning with Technology and the lead consultant on Portfolios at Penn State. From childhood through graduate studies and professional work, Heather has over 30 years of experience creating and curating portfolios, both analog and digital. Heather’s unique academic background positions her to provide expert consultation on portfolio pedagogy and curation. In addition to earning a Ph.D. from Penn Sate for her research on meaning making in social networks, Heather produced more than twenty public exhibitions of professional and student artwork as the managing curator of the Zoller Gallery at Penn State. Driven by her deep interest in understanding data through visual methods, Heather also completed her second Master’s degree in Information Visualization from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
